Lollipop Chainsaw - Behind the Lollipop-alypse

If there is one thing missing from the video game world is a zombie game with a cheerleading slant. I mean sure, I can play Dead Rising or Left 4 Dead for a zombie fix and a quick go on Let's Cheer for Kinect covers the other side of things. Yet no-one has every thought of bringing these two things together.

Until Now!

Lollipop Chainsaw is the latest game from Japanese gaming legend Suda51, the man behind such greats as Killer7, No More Heroes and the criminally under-rated Shadows of the Damned. He has teamed up with Hollywood writer James Gunn (Dawn of the Dead; Slither; Super) to create Lollipop Chainsaw, a high school Romeo & Juliet, with zombies and chainsaws.

The game follows story of sweet but killer zombie-hunter Juliet Starling and her quest to uncover the root of a colossal zombie outbreak. With her wickedly awesome chainsaw in hand, Juliet slices, dices and splits her way through hordes of the undead, but soon realizes the horde is only the opening act to a festival of zombie rock lords determined to kill the chainsaw-wielding cheerleader. She is joined on her quest by the severed head of her High School boyfriend, Nick.

The team behind the game wants to make a funny zombie game, where the blood and violence aren't centre of attention. Instead, when Juliet beheads a zombie expect to see a fountain of neon love hearts. Split a zombie open and get treated to a dazzling rainbow.

To be honest it sounds like a cross between Buffy the Vampire Slayer and one of the cutesy kids cartoons featuring some kind of magical animal that loves sunshine and rainbows.... with zombies.

Can't go wrong them can they!

Lollipop Chainsaw is available on June 15th,  The game will be available on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
